About Us

H.E. BENIGNO S. AQUINO III

Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Cojuangco Aquino III was elected President of the Republic of the Philippines on May 10, 2010 as a member of the Liberal party.10 He was the only son of the late People's Power icon Corazon Cojuangco Aquino, who passed away last August of 2009. His father was Ninoy Aquino who was assassinated during the Marcos dictatorship. NoyNoy Aquino decided to run as President for the 2010 Philippine Elections after the overwhelming clamor of the Filipino people for change in government following his mother's death.11 He was officially sworn in as President on June 26, 2010.

Born into a political, aristocratic family on February 8, 1960, he ran his presidential campaign on the promise of cleaning up corruption and trying to end poverty in the Philippines. According to a Time Magazine article, he carries himself with, "an air of almost Gandhian simplicity and uprightness."12 He has the disctinction of being the first president to be unmarried when taking office. He relaxes by playing computer games, enjoys listening to music and considers himself a history buff.
